Intro

Communications
Initial communications between architect and client is critically important. We listen to what your goals are--your needs, wants, budget and schedule--and we provide insights into how our services creates architecture that works for you and your project, the role of an architect, and how we bill for services.

PD

Preliminary Design
Primarily an internal exercise to compile project data, applicable zoning ordinances and building codes, and other reference documentation. This information may include client-supplied data, real property data, onsite photography, documentation from authorities having jurisdication, and so forth.

SD

Schematic Design
With client's goals in mind, and having a better understanding of site conditions and zoning ordinances, we are now in a position to begin sketching ideas on paper, build and analyze physical models, and/or develop masses in virtual space. It's a time when we explore architectural ideas and concepts.

DD

Design Development
This phase is marked by building upon and refining the combination of preliminary project data and schematic designs. It's experimenting with architectural concepts for what works, what doesn't, and looking at the design as a whole solution. This often takes numerous steps to derive an appropriate solution that best serves its purpose.

CD

Construction Drawings
All that's come before is only half of an architect's job. Now comes all the other information to create a set of plans for bidding purposes as well as review and permittance by authorities having jurisidiction. Normally, this is done through your local building department but may include environmental, historic, and other types of overlapping jurisdictions.

DCA

Design Contract Admin.
Architects are required to take an active/passive role during construction. Active in the sense that we represent your interests while construction takes place tp see that it's built as intended. Passive in the sense that we acknowledge the builder has knowledge of, and the responsibility for, construction and worksite.

Featured projects

This conceptual design is contains design aspects of those found at Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin. An indirect, covered entryway shelters homeowners and visitors. Sunlight penetrates the interior through roof skylights and a central clerestory along the highest roof ridge. Windows are oriented for capturing light, ventilation, and stunning views. Spaces within cater to clients' desire for an open plan yet still having definition among primary living spaces.
Original residence was designed by Herbert Fritz, Jr. and is located in Madison, WI. A soils engineer determined what type of foundation repair was required, and this portion of the work has already stabilized the sinking foundation. Bidding documents have been prepared to restore the exterior siding while other design considerations have been prepared for improving the house's overall energy efficiency.
3-Season Porch & Deck Addition
The clients looked to have a 3-season porch off their existing dining room, and an outdoor deck outside of that. The vaulted porch room is light and airy, having operable windows, floor bays to accomodate furniture, and a bay window that can be used for decorative purposes while also strong enough to support a person seated there.
