Project overview
Some houses are unique, older buildings which require special attention. This is where restoration comes into play in order to not only revitalize these houses for their current occupants but to ensure these exemplary buildings are around for years to come.
This house was designed by Herbert Fritz, Jr. Following his apprenticeship with renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, he returned to Madison to design more than 200 houses and other buildings. The floors of this house were sagging at the rear side, wood siding has been deteriorating, and windows and doors are drafty, and some became unoperable due to out-of-square wall framing. Also, the amount of wall insulation in any one wall is questionable.
First course of action has been to raise and stabilize the foundation. That had taken a structural engineer to investigate underlying soil structure and design recommendations to adequately stabilize the foundation. Once this was determined, a foundation repair crew was able to install the screw-pile system to raise and stabilize the structure.
During this time, TWA developed construction documentation to rehabilitate the remaining structure. Eventually, the remaining rehabilitation work can proceed with the complete confidence that the structure will be firm and square. This work will include replacing windows and doors, siding, and other aspects of the design.
